Highlights Trek Plus – 6 days

Itinerary

Day 0

Welcome by the mountain guide who will join you on the expedition. Equipment check and a brief informational talk about the region’s characteristics and the itinerary for the upcoming days.

Day 1
We take a land-transfer to Río Electrico Bridge. From there we start our hike towards Piedra del Fraile hut. We follow Valle del Río Electrico, until we reach Marconi Glacier and to Valle Pollone where North Fitz Roy Glacier hides. We then return to Pìedra del Fraile hut.

Day 2
On day two we hike along the Valle del Río Blanco to Campamento Poincenot (Fitz Roy base camp). During the trek we will walk across a breathtaking hanging glacier: Piedras Blancas, which comes right from Fitz Roy’s foot. Laguna de los Tres (Fitz Roy look-out) is our final destination before reaching camp where a well-deserved dinner is waiting for us.

Day 3
Cerro Torre base camp is our final destination today. We hike along Laguna Madre e Hija (mother and daughter). After a couple of hours we drop into Valle Cerro Torre. One more hour and we reach Laguna Torre where Glacier Grande falls. We head back to camp.

Day 4
Amazing trek to Laguna Toro! We cross Fitz Roy River using the Tyrolean traverse traverse crossing and we head to Paso de las Agachonas, a pass between Loma del Pliegue Tumbado and Cerro Solo. From up there, views of Fitz Roy, Cerro Torre, Cerro Huemul, and the Paso del Viento are just mesmerizing. We hike down to the other side of the pass towards Río Túnel and then to the Laguna Toro camp.

Day 5
This trek brings all the terrains together: grass, scree and glacier. This is the highlight of the expedition. For some people the best hike. Impressive views of the Continental Southern Ice Cap, third largest ice mass of freshwater in the world. We will need to cross the river either by a Tyrolean traverse traverse line or by wading it.

Day 6
After breakfast and packing our stuff. We hike along the Río Túnel and over Loma del Pliegue Tumbado. A very nice hike out to El Chaltén. Only 6 hours with 500-meter elevation gain. With astonishing views of Lago Viedma, Fitz Roy Range and Cerro Torre Range. We will see the village from above.
We check in and get ready for a nice and well-deserved asado.
