DAY- HIKE TO PASO DEL CUADRADO
A very demanding day hike for the adventurous hiker, where you will admire Cerro Torre, Cerro Fitz Roy, Aguja Pollone among other breathtaking views!
The hike starts with a 17 km land-transfer to Río Electrico bridge. We start hiking on a mainly flat beautiful beech forested trail for about 2 hours up until we reach Piedra del Fraile Hut (where D’Agostini priest camped 90 years ago).
From there an uphill awaits us. 1000 meters up to Piedra Negra bivouac. Then we will hike for 45 more minutes until we arrive at the pass.
Depending on conditions we might use crampons and/or rope up for the last little bit.
We descend by the same trail. And once we reach Río Electrico bridge, the transfer will be waiting for us to take us back to El Chaltén.
Distance of 11 km round trip.
Altitude gain of 1300 meters.
Hiking time 10 hours.
